Access to Justice Programme
Programme Overview
The Access to Justice Programme is the core pillar of Amka Africa’s work. It is designed to address systemic and practical barriers that prevent the legally underserved, particularly women, children, and gender minorities, from accessing legal services. The programme responds to the reality that justice systems often remain inaccessible due to cost, complexity, geographic distance, and structural discrimination. Amka Africa delivers access to justice through collaborative tripartite partnerships with university based legal aid clinics on one part, and grassroot organisations on the other part.
Key Interventions
- Provision of free legal aid services to the legally underserved.
- Public Interest Litigation (PIL) to address structural injustices and advance constitutional and human rights protections.
- Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) through mediation to promote accessible, timely, and community-responsive justice mechanisms.
- Legal outreaches such as prison visits and community legal aid clinics organised in partnership with grassroots organisations to reach underserved populations.
