Businesses owned by womxn and gender minorities account for 49% of the Kenyan GDP. However, 85% of these businesses are unregistered and unlicensed. The same applies to self-help groups that bring together such womxn and gender minorities.
Lack of knowledge on the registration processes is the main barrier hindering these groups from registering their businesses and chamas. This in turn limits their eligibility for financial aid which ultimately curtails their growth.
